Animal attacks and kills one in Louisiana

When someone is injured, they most likely need to get medical treatment for it and this treatment can end up getting very costly. When someone else causes the injury, it might be possible to hold them accountable through various legal mechanisms and receive compensation for their injuries.

Dog bites fall under premises liability laws. This means that an owner in Louisiana can be held accountable for a dog bite if the owner could have prevented the injury and the injured person did nothing to provoke the dog prior to the bite. The applicable laws and liability may be relevant for family members of a woman who died after a dog bit her in a Louisiana pet hotel.

According to authorities, the victim was attacked by a 50-pound pit bull when she was trying to feed the animal. They are not sure as to why the animal suddenly became violent and attacked her, as the dog allegedly does not have a history of aggression. The incident is being investigated.

According to the research director for the National Canine Research Council who has studied five decades worth of dog-bite fatalities, poor ownership and management is often the cause. This means people obtain dogs but do not maintain them properly and do not supervise the interaction between children and dogs.

Dogs may be a man's best friend, but he can also be their worst enemy if not properly trained and maintained. When an animal attacks a person, it might be possible for the victim to pursue a premises liability case against the owner and recover compensation to cover their expenses.
